Tanzania has a new initiative to boost horticultural exports to the UK

In Tanzania, a new initiative has been launched to boost horticultural exports to the United Kingdom. This program is designed to support both startup and established export firms in meeting international standards for smoother market access. Dr. Jacqueline Mkindi, CEO of TAHA, announced this development, highlighting the program’s focus on fostering business-to-business engagements, enhancing supply chain efficiencies, and ensuring compliance with certifications and standards.

The initiative targets a broad range of horticultural products, including fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, cut flowers, and cuttings. Companies are encouraged to apply by July 20. The UK’s recent approval of duty-free exports is expected to significantly benefit Tanzania’s export performance.

Additionally, Dr. Mkindi’s appointment to the Presidential Food and Agriculture Delivery Council is anticipated to further strengthen efforts to boost horticultural exports. Tanzania has seen a steady increase in horticultural exports to the UK, with notable growth in products like avocados and bitter gourd, despite declines in rose flower and green bean exports. This initiative reflects the dynamic nature of global demand and Tanzania’s adaptive strategies in the horticultural sector.
