Somali livestock farmers acquire advanced feed production equipment to tackle forage shortages during drought

Livestock farmers from the Baari Livestock Cooperative in Somalia have received modern feed production equipment from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) to help address forage shortages, particularly during dry seasons.

The equipment, which includes balers, hay cutters, hay collectors, and silage machines, is part of a broader project aimed at enabling farmers to harvest animal feed more efficiently. This initiative seeks to enhance food security for livestock producers and protect animal health during droughts.

TİKA’s support is also intended to strengthen the local economy and diversify community livelihoods, marking a significant step toward improving the sustainability of the livestock sector in Mogadishu.

Members of the Baari Livestock Cooperative highlighted that the equipment would increase production efficiency, allowing them to provide higher-quality feed to their animals, helping rural livestock keepers endure dry periods without major losses.

This support is expected to boost Somalia’s agricultural and livestock potential, contributing to the overall development of the region. Through this project, TİKA continues its efforts to promote food security and economic stability in Somalia.
